Musical hit Sweeney Todd on Blu-ray

I was little hesitant to see this movie because I'm not big fan of musicals. I gave it a chance because I'm a big Tim Burton fan. Based on a novel Tim Burton does an excellent job developing the story and character and bringing it to the big screen. Without a doubt this is a great bloddy movie.

Johnny Depp plays the title role named Benjamin Barker who is happily married father in London. Judge Turpinlusts after Barker's wife and he sentences Barker to prison. Afterwards, he seduces Barker's wife and holds their daughter until she is old enough to marry him. 15 yearslater Barker escapes and returns to London to take revenge. He does so by taking an identiy as Sweeny Todd. The story expands from there into fine bloody mess for everyone involved.

Johnny Depp does an admirable job as the leading role and Helena does decent job. It is musical and Helena isn't a singer. Other than that, it is very convincing role for both.

This is an amazing film even if you have never heard of Stephen Sondheim's work. Making this musical was little bit of risk but all in all, it is a fantastic film.

Musical classic Phantom of the Opera on Blu-ray

Having never seen this in any form I did not know what to expect. Not being a fan of musicals I wasnt really looking forward to see this. I must say that the movie turned out to be pretty entertaining. The first transition into the story of the movie was pretty good, I have never seen any transitions like that. The music in the movie is as expected.

The movie, for the most part, retains much of the stage show. Akthough there were slight differences according to most reviews. The magical tone and mood stays true to the stage production according to the most.

The acting by the actors stood out for me. Emmy Rossum was great in her role as Christine, being so young and pulling of the role was great. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that she actually sings her role, not many actors seem to do that even if they have a good voice. She is trained singer i believe.

Gerard Butler as the role of the Phantom was very good. The anger and loneliness surrounding him was palpable througout the film. Gerard portrays all of the Phantom's feelings.

Joel Schumacher has brought this to the big screen in fairly good manner. We've not expected a great film from him but he delivers quite nicely.
