Comic Book Adaptation Constantine on Blu-ray format

Constantine is a very enjoyable and exciting movie. It's not a dramatic Oscar worthy stuff but it is enjoyable none the less. Francis Lawrence did fantastic job of pace and plot and overall direction of the movie. He made it stylish with distinct look and feel. The majority of the first half was introduction and setting up the story. There's not much action except at the very begining. The second half picks up steam and lots of action and story follow.
Rachel Weisz was stole the show as the lead, giving a terrific performance. Gavin Rossdale was good, playing the bad guy card to a great perfection. And Djimon Housan, and Tilda Swinton were also fantastic in their supporting role. Shia LeBlouf did decent job as a comic relief.
Critics have been saying that Keanu Reeves' did terrible job, but I disagree. He does not turn in Oscar worthy acting but he does very good job with the roled handed to him.
Keanu Reeves was pretty good in the part of main character who seeks to gain favor of God and redeem himself to enter the Heaven. Constantine constantly tries to do what is required and desperately wants to go to Heaven. The ending of the film leaves plenty of room for sequel and I hope they do make another film with Keanu Reeves.

V for Vendetta Blu-ray movie review

V for Vendetta is an amazing movie. It's an amazing story with great performance. It's visually stunning movie with great plot. You will not have boring moment in this movie. You will really enjoy this movie from start to finish.
Natalie Portman plays a young woman who is constantly afraid of everything in the world. She is attacked by few miscreatns after she is out during the night where she is saved by the terrorist V. V was transformed by fascist government and fights the establishment in anyway he can. He fights the British government in every turn in anyway he can.
The plot from the comic book to movie adaptation has changed some what. For obvious reason, the year is not set in 1998 and the nuclear war is replaced with some virus break out. The central ideals and commentary remains the same throughout the movie. The fight scenes are really great in this movie with its own style and visual effects. Even though the plot is not consistant with the comic but Wachowski borthers created a great story and plot of their own.
The action is balanced well with plot development, character development, and action sequence. There are places in the movie where it seems slow to build up the plot and suspense. But that is very minor complaint in an overall great pace.
The movie works well as social commentary to warn against such realization. But, if you just want a great movie with great performance in a great plot, than this movie will satisfy anyone.

Blu-ray movie review of Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth

Fans of Jules Verne novels might be disappointed with this effort. People expecting a great translation of Verne classic might not like what they see. However, if you are looking for a thrilling blockbuster movie. this is decent pop corn inducing flick to waste few hours.
Trevor Anderson played by Brendon Fraser is a professor of geology, whose brother disappeared 10 years ago. The duo ran a scientific lab that's being threatened with budget cuts, and during a visit of his nephew, Sam played by Josh Hutcherson, the sensors placed in Iceland alerts them to some activity. The two of them head to Iceland to investigate the activity.
They meet up with a guide, Hannah played by Anita Briem, who takes them up the mountain near the sensors. This is where the fun or adventure begin. The cave gives in and they are trapped. They head deeper into cave and find that Verne's account was not just a fiction but in fact a true description.
The actors did a reasonable job with the CGI background and CGI monsters and animals. I think they tried too hard to make this into a 3-D film. Have you watched any GOOD movie that's done in 3-D? It would have been a fun movie without trying to make this into 3-D film. If you happened to catch it in theater with 3-D glasses, it might have added little more enjoyment. Otherwise, the Blu-ray edition includes the 3-D as well as the 2-D version.

Musical hit Sweeney Todd on Blu-ray

I was little hesitant to see this movie because I'm not big fan of musicals. I gave it a chance because I'm a big Tim Burton fan. Based on a novel Tim Burton does an excellent job developing the story and character and bringing it to the big screen. Without a doubt this is a great bloddy movie.
Johnny Depp plays the title role named Benjamin Barker who is happily married father in London. Judge Turpinlusts after Barker's wife and he sentences Barker to prison. Afterwards, he seduces Barker's wife and holds their daughter until she is old enough to marry him. 15 yearslater Barker escapes and returns to London to take revenge. He does so by taking an identiy as Sweeny Todd. The story expands from there into fine bloody mess for everyone involved.
Johnny Depp does an admirable job as the leading role and Helena does decent job. It is musical and Helena isn't a singer. Other than that, it is very convincing role for both.
This is an amazing film even if you have never heard of Stephen Sondheim's work. Making this musical was little bit of risk but all in all, it is a fantastic film.

Blu-ray movie review of The Departed

This film is one of Scorsese's finest work. Scorsese delivers another great film backed by great script and great acting. The credit should go to people who penned this movie and the original creators. But, Scorsese along with Damon and Dicaprio has created uniquely American flavored film. Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon deliver incredible performances throughout the movie.
The acting is outstanding. Leonardo DiCaprio gives his best performance of the year. Seems like he was born to play this role. Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson give incredible performance as the "bad" guys. And, Mark Wahlberg is perfect as the cop. Ray Winstone, Alec Baldwin, and Martin Sheen are good, too.
Inevitably, people will compare this film to the original Hong Kong film. Some things are better than in original movie. And, some things are better in the remake. The pacing is bit faster in the original as the dots are connected fairly fast. However, the remake does incredible job with the story line. It makes it feel like it was not made from foreign movie. There is gritty American feel to it.
No film is perfect and the only disappointment will be from the people that have seen the original work. The fanboys will always bash a remake. Other than that, nobody should have problem with the story, direction, acting, and the pace of this incredible film.

Underworld Evolution Blu-ray movie review

If you enjoyed the original Underworld, than you will most likely enjoy this film. The movie is more or less shaped from the original and does not stray too far from the successful formula. That's to say this movie contains decent plot and lots of fighting sequence. Nothing to write home about but it does not try to be anything other than entertaining flick.
The story and plot in this film not as good as the first one and that is to be expected second time around. We get little bit more on the background of the war between the two races. I won't spoil the plot but there are meaningful back end to the over all story. With little more background story out of the way, the rest of the movie dives into the action scene after action scene.
The over all pacing was very good, the dialogue was adequate nothing earth shattering. The questions asked in first and second installments are faithfully answered. There is no major cliff hanger moment or story line in the end. The story line while thin, was quite enjoyable.
Kate Beckinsale delivers a great performance and Scott Speedman was half decent. Both delivering a performance that made me believe they were who they said they were. And the supporting cast around the two main stars were all equally up to the task. If nothing else, you get pretty compelling performance by Kate Beckinsale. She seems to comfortable playing the vampire type.

Horror classic The Shining on Blu-ray

It's well know that Stephen King didn't like Stanley Kubrick's version of The Shining. King stated that Kubrick didn't fully understand the genre of horror. Kubrick decided to pass on the typical gore or Omen style horror in favor of more psychological approach. You don't get people here jumping out of the dark time after time to slash another person. What you get is slow build up of dread followed by violent burst toward the end.
Plot is fairly simple, Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duvall's characters are hired to take care of a hotel. Slowly, Nicholson loses reality and goes after his own family.
One of the most significant aspects of this movie is the physical and psychological isolation felt by the entire family in the remote hotel. The film starts off with a lengthy scene following Jack as he drives up to the old hotel for his interview followed by the living condition of isolation felt by the family. The viewers can feel the isolation and growing uneasiness building toward the end. The scary part is that this can happen in reality. That people can lose it like Nicholson. There are no buckets of blood and retarded contraption. It's just pure dread and mood built on isolation.
Overall this is an excellent horror movie with worthy acting job. Kubrick does great job portraying the isolation and the mood of the film. It's a must see for any horror film fans.

American Psycho Blu-ray movie review

American Psycho was Directed by Mary Harron and based On The Novel by Bret Easton Ellis. The Movie takes place on Manhattan New York, amidst Business executives, Presidents, and CEOs. And, in middle of all these people is the buisnessman Patrick Bateman. He is an ultimate power businessman with expensive tastes and expensive habits. But underneath the surface, he is disturbed killer. He may have flesh, blood skin and bone, but inside, he is hollow and monsterous. He describes himself and emotionless save for two emotions.
Cristian Bale was excellent and this role most likely launched him into more visible roles in Batman and other films. You truly believe when watching that he is a disturbed monsters. The confusing downward spiral into madness is totally believable. Simply excellent performance in this movie.
American Psycho is almost a perfect viewing for anyone who loves an intelligent movie with Oscar worthy acting all round. Willem Dafoe makes a classic appearance as the cop. Reece Witherspoon is his shallow, vapid fiance who is so busy planning the wedding that she doesn't notice that Patrick is a psycho. The entire cast does admiral job in this movie. Don't miss this great film and with Blu-ray release you have no excuse to miss this film.

Science fiction master piece The Fifth Element on Blu-ray

This is a great science fiction movie. It isn't your typical scifi flick in the vein of aliens, star wars, or star trek. It has rich background history backed by very good acting and story line. It is much more interesting than your run of the mill sci fi movie of week movies. The story is pretty good if not predictable but thats not to say it is cliche or jaded story line.
The plot does not take center stage in this movie. The imagination and creativity and execution is pure genius, especially how the design of the city. The entire movie has very good sci fi feel to it. From clothing to city to machinery it is fantastic.
Korben Dallas played by Bruce Willis is your regular New York taxi driver. With special op military backroung. One afternoon Leeloo drops from the sky and asks for help. Leeloo it seems is a supreme being capable of fighting the encroaching evil. The adventure starts from there to fantastic ending
The fifth element is certainly one of the best and most imaginative science fiction produced in a while. The great acting by the leads combined with great supporting cast shines throughout the movie. Luc Besson does great job adding his touch to this movie. Any fan of Besson will recognize the style and mood of the film. A must watch for any Science fiction fans.

Frank Miller’s 300 arrives on Blu-ray

Most of us have read or know about the story of 300 Spartans holding off overwhelming forces for days. You would not enjoy this film if you want historically accurate film. The Spartans fight half naked for love of god. But, if you can accept that this film is made from the comic book, you can enjoy this film. The film is either loved by the fans or hated by non fans. There are no in between. It is action packed visually pleasing film that won't win any Oscar but ultimately will entertain you.
Being based upon a comic book, you can expect it to be visually grand . The battle scenes are entirely different from those seen in other films but are no less impressive with the use of green screen, most notably the ones featuring the immortals are terrifying . The entire movie feels like comic book transferred onto the movie screen. Everthing from fighting scene to visualization of each individuals.
The stylization of the effects from start to finish reminds us of the comic book heritage. This doesn't take away from a pretty decent story line and acting job. Like I said, you have to go into watching this film with proper expectation and knowledge. Overall, it is fairly entertaining film with great special effects. The movie translates great to high definition format in Blu-ray.
