Blu-ray review of Thomas Jane’s The Punisher

the punisher 300x300 Blu ray review of Thomas Janes The Punisher

This revenge flick is up there with old Clint Eastwood or Charles Bronson's revenge movies. I like the fact that the main character has no reservation when it comes to the revenge. We often see the hero contemplate and even despise killing he has to do as in Bourne series. Not in this movie. There is sweet, messy revenge from start to finish.

I think most of us are familiar with the story of Punisher as it has been made into movie and is fairly a popular comic book character. FBI agent Frank Castle's family is murdered on the order of mobster's wife. Frank survives and starts on a brutal revenge spree to avenge their death.

Make no mistake, this is an action flick from start to finish. But, it has much more drama and human nature involved in the plot than most other shoot em up action flicks. The action sequences are pretty good considering the budget wasn't as high as other comic book adaptation from Marvel. Even so, the movie does not feel cheap or light.

The director has done a great job squeezing out maximum amount of effects from the small budget. The realistic location sets are done fairly well and it complements the movie well. The actors are all pretty good. I was surprised that Thomas Jane was chosen for this role but he does very good job portraying the tormented avenger. All in all, this is a very good action movie and should not be viewed as another marvel teenage superhero movie.
